Wicklow & Glendalough

County Wicklow is known as the Garden County and it certainly lives up to that name boasting some of the most beautiful gardens and estates in Ireland from the world famous Powerscourt Estate to the unique and eclectic June Blake's Garden. Wicklow is one of Ireland's most scenic counties. Sandy beaches, hidden coves and caves, mountains, waterfalls and lakes are just some of the treasures waiting to be discovered on your visit to the county.

Glendalough, situated in the Wicklow Mountains National Park is one of the most visited places in Ireland and it is easy to see why. There are an abundance of walks and trails taking in its scenic lakes and valleys. It is renowned for its natural beauty, archaeology and wildlife and is one of the most photographed places in the Emerald Isle.

Glendalough is also home to "Monastic City" which is one of the most important monastic sites in Ireland. St. Kevin founded this early Christian settlement in the 6th Century. There are a number of monastic remains contained in this "city" including a 30m high round tower, St. Mary's Church, a priest's house built in the 12th Century, 6th / 7th Century granite cross, St. Kevin's Kitchen and the largest church on the site, the "Cathedral".
